5-Hydroxytryptophan - 5 HTP Product Highlights:
- Significant increase in serotonin levels
- Is superior to regular tryptophan in every way
- Contains only natural 5-HTP
- Can help fight insomnia and promote healthy, restful sleep
- Is clearly superior to the popular melatonin for sleep problems
What is 5-HTP?
5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is an amino acid that occurs naturally in the human body as an intermediate product in the synthesis of serotonin from the amino acid tryptophan. 5-HTP is the direct precursor of serotonin and is only one synthetic step away from serotonin. Scientific studies have shown that 5-HTP supplementation can significantly increase serotonin levels in the brain, which is particularly the case when serotonin levels are low or too low.
When it comes to increasing the natural production of serotonin in the brain, 5-HTP supplementation is clearly superior to tryptophan intake, as 5-HTP is one step closer to serotonin. In addition, 5-HTP can cross the blood-brain barrier unhindered, while tryptophan has to compete with other amino acids when it is absorbed into the brain and can only cross the blood-brain barrier in limited quantities.
We do not use synthetically produced 5-HTP, but an extract from the seeds of the African salsify, also known under the name Griffonia Simplicifolia and the most concentrated source of natural 5-HTP. The extract we use is characterized by an extremely high 5-HTP content of 98% and therefore consists almost exclusively of pure, natural 5-HTP.
Why are adequate serotonin levels so important for health and wellbeing?
Too low the body's own serotonin production in the brain is unfortunately very widespread today for various reasons, including stress, too little exercise and an unhealthy diet. Serotonin is an important neurotransmitter that is urgently needed for well-being, appetite regulation and healthy, restful sleep.
Low serotonin levels have been linked to a variety of problems including insomnia, poor sleep, depression, anxiety, migraines, headaches, muscle aches, fibromyalgia, mood and wellbeing deterioration, carbohydrate cravings, obesity, and a include reduced mental and physical performance.
Since 5-HTP increases the natural production of serotonin in the brain, it is not surprising that countless scientific studies and field reports show that this amino acid can help to effectively alleviate precisely these problems - and many more -.
How can 5-HTP promote healthy and restful sleep, and why is it more effective than melatonin in this regard?
About 30% of the population suffer from insomnia, trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, and other sleep problems that can seriously affect a good night's sleep. Medicines or the over-the-counter supplement melatonin are often used to treat these sleep problems. However, these products have serious disadvantages, including a disruption of the natural sleep pattern. In addition, these active ingredients can make you tired during the day and make getting up in the morning a pain.
5-HTP works in a healthier and more tolerable way, as it stimulates the body's natural melatonin production, which results in a longer REM phase and a longer deep sleep phase, which of the different sleep phases are most important for rest and relaxation. This results in deeper and more restful sleep without increasing sleep duration, which means you can recover better at night without spending more time in bed.
Scientific studies have shown that the duration of REM sleep, which is also known as the dream phase, is dose-dependent and a higher dose of 5-HTP results in a longer REM sleep phase. Further research has also shown that 5-HTP has a better effect than taking melatonin in the treatment of sleep problems.
Warnings: If you are under medical treatment for sleep disorders, depression, migraines or fibromyalgia, you should discuss the use of 5-HTP with your doctor beforehand. Even if 5-HTP usually works well for these conditions and problems, you should never change or discontinue your current medication without consulting your doctor.
Recommended intake: 1 to 3 capsules about 30 to 45 minutes before going to bed. Since 5-HTP uses other transport routes than tryptophan to cross the blood-brain barrier and does not have to compete with other amino acids for absorption into the brain, 5-HTP, unlike tryptophan, can also be taken with meals.
