What are digestive enzymes?
Enzymes are the body's own compounds that serve as catalysts for countless essential body processes and without which nothing in the human body could function. The body's own enzymes enable complex chemical processes to take place and help the body break down a wide variety of compounds, including dangerous toxins and complex food components.
In the case of endogenous enzymes, a rough distinction is made between metabolic enzymes, which are essential for maintaining the vital functions of the organs and metabolism, and the so-called digestive enzymes, which are responsible for breaking down food into smaller molecules that the body can absorb and use. In addition, there are naturally occurring enzymes in food that primarily support digestion and the body's own digestive enzymes. A deficiency in various enzymes can lead to a disturbed enzyme balance throughout the body and the development of numerous diseases. Digestive enzymes are among the most important enzymes in the human body because without these enzymes the body is unable to break down the daily food supplied into amino acids, fatty acids and short-chain carbohydrates, which can be absorbed by the body through the intestines, while complex protein structures, complete fats and complex carbohydrates cannot and must not pass the intestinal wall for good reasons. In addition, enzymes are responsible for isolating micronutrients contained in food, including vitamins, minerals and trace elements, from food and making them usable for the body.
A deficiency in certain digestive enzymes can lead to impaired digestion and, depending on the type of deficiency, gas, diarrhea, fatty stools, stomach and intestinal pain and many other digestive problems. What is even more serious is that such a deficiency can, in extreme cases, also result in an undersupply of the body with essential nutrients such as essential amino acids, essential fatty acids or essential micronutrients, which can lead to considerable health problems.
Why does it make sense to take additional digestive enzymes in the form of supplements?
There are a number of factors that can make it difficult for the body to produce sufficient amounts of its own enzymes. These include seemingly mundane, but unfortunately at the same time practically unavoidable factors such as environmental toxins, stress, increased levels of free radicals and an unhealthy diet rich in highly processed foods. In an ideal world, part of this potential enzyme deficiency could be compensated for by a healthy diet with lots of raw vegetables, but since we like to heat our food and enzymes are destroyed above a temperature of 42 degrees - and apart from this, our food usually starts right from the start is very poor in nutritional enzymes - unfortunately for most of us this is no more than theory. In addition, the body's own enzyme production decreases steadily with age, which further exacerbates these problems. By supplying concentrated digestive enzymes in the form of GN Digestive Enzymes, you can ensure that your body is adequately supplied with all the enzymes that are important for digestion, thereby ensuring both digestive problems and an insufficient supply of essential macro and micronutrients. Did you know that our body uses on average almost 80% of its energy for digestion and all processes related to it? Since the body also needs a lot of energy and important resources for the production of enzymes, you can relieve it considerably by taking digestive enzymes regularly and as a result you will have significantly more energy at its disposal, which is now available for other purposes.
But digestive enzymes can do a lot more than "just" improve digestion and the supply of nutrients to the body. Do you remember that in the previous section we talked about the multitude of metabolic enzymes that are responsible, among other things, for important regeneration processes in the body, to support the immune system and general health, as well as the breakdown of toxins and metabolic waste products?
Since digestion is the top priority for the body, the production of these other important enzymes can suffer from the body becoming overly preoccupied with producing digestive enzymes. Conversely, taking digestive enzymes means that the body can produce more important metabolic enzymes. Thus, digestive enzymes taken in the form of high-quality supplements can indirectly improve immune function, increase energy levels, slow down the progress of aging, help alleviate inflammation and pain, and accelerate the body's regeneration and healing processes.
Digestive enzymes in the form of supplements are particularly interesting for hard training athletes and especially strength athletes who want to build muscle mass. These athletes require large amounts of nutritional energy to meet their increased need for nutrients and calories, which can easily push natural digestion to its limits. Digestive enzymes can help here and ensure that the body can process and absorb significantly increased amounts of food without any problems.
What types of digestive enzymes does GN Digestive Enzymes contain?
When putting together the formula for our Digestive Enzymes, we consciously paid attention to a balanced composition of different digestive enzymes, which is made up of the following enzymes:
Lipase
Lipase is the enzyme that is responsible for digesting fats. It breaks down dietary fats into individual fatty acids, which can be absorbed into the bloodstream through the intestinal wall. Insufficient lipase activity leads to greasy bowel movements, as some of the dietary fats are excreted undigested and can hinder the absorption of vital fat-soluble vitamins. In addition, the lipase relieves the gallbladder and liver and can improve the absorption of protein from fatty foods such as meat and fish.
Protease
The protease is responsible for breaking down complex food proteins into simple amino acids, as well as di- and tripeptides, which can be absorbed into the bloodstream via the intestine. A deficiency in this enzyme is one of the common causes of the gas and digestive problems that many people suffer from with high protein intake.
Amylase
Amylase breaks down complex carbohydrates in food, such as starch, into simple sugars that can be absorbed by the body.
Cellulase
The cellulase breaks down plant fibers contained in fruits and vegetables into nutrients that can be used by the body. A supplementation with cellulase is particularly important for all those who react to the consumption of fruit and vegetables with digestive problems and flatulence, which is usually due to an inadequate endogenous production of this enzyme and the resulting fermentation processes in the body.
Lactase
Lactase is the enzyme that is needed to digest milk sugar (lactose). About 70% of all people suffer from insufficient lactase production in the body, which results in a more or less pronounced intolerance to dairy products, which is manifested, among other things, by severe flatulence. Often, people suffering from lactose intolerance can consume dairy products without any problems if they take lactase with them.
